September 2017. My partner receives an email that he has been accepted into a medical fellowship program in Vancouver. The program will start in August 2018 and it will run for one year. I am happy for him but at the same time I’m faced with a decision I hadn’t asked for. I had dallied with the idea of going abroad for a year myself, but Vancouver hadn’t been on my list of destinations and right now my gut feeling is that I shouldn’t go anywhere but simply stay in Berlin.
