14 October 2017. I found out that I can apply for a scholarship to fund my year abroad, but I need a project that will justify a 12-month stay in Canada. A little bit clueless
and still unsure whether or not I want to go abroad for a year at all, I ask a friend what to do. He proposes that I could refer to my previous artistic work dealing with dance history and check
if there wasn’t a German dancer who emigrated to Canada. He admits that it is may be a bit too simple, but encourages me to give it a try. So that night I go home and I type four words into the
google search engine: german dancer exile canada. The 7th entry on the results page is an article about Ruth Sorel published in a local newspaper of the city of Halle, the town where Sorel was
born. I had never heard about Ruth Abramowitsch Sorel. Or at least that’s what I thought.
