8 November 2018. I’m in Montreal in order to visit sites of Sorel’s life and do more archival research. I visit “Les Cours Mount-Royal.” This shopping mall is all that is left of
the Hotel Sheraton Mount-Royal and the ballroom in which Sorel performed “Mea Culpa.” I imagine that the ballroom was in the basement of the former hotel, so I first go to the ground level. But
today this is only the food court with its usual line up of fast food restaurants and coffee shops. I read on the shopping mall’s website that the ceiling of the former Hotel Sheraton Mount-Royal
has been restored and integrated into the mall. So I wander around a bit and eventually I take the escalator up. At the centre of the second floor there is an impressive chandelier hanging from
the ceiling. This must be the former ceiling of the hotel Sheraton. To my surprise I also see two rows of theatre chairs arranged around a long and narrow stage. A stage that is probably used as
a catwalk for fashion shows in the shopping centre. So there is still a theatre in the Cours Mount-Royal or at least a theatre mock-up.
